Anantnag, Dec 05: Mian Altaf Ahmad, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency, has written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting that the proposed Vande Bharat Sleeper train include a stoppage at the Anantnag railway station.
In his letter, MP Altaf writes that Anantnag is the first major district headquarters in the Kashmir Valley after Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and that stopping the train at Anantnag would benefit not only the district’s residents but also those in adjoining areas.
“I have come to know that Vande Bharat Sleeper train services will commence in January 2025 next year in Kashmir. Further, once the railway line to Srinagar is operationalised, the people will be able to directly travel to Kashmir in a train,” he said.
The letter reads: “Anantnag, which is also the District Headquarters, is the first important district in the Kashmir Valley after Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and stopping the train at Anantnag will help the people in the adjoining district also.”
Therefore, as an elected representative of Anantnag-Rajouri constituency of Jammu & Kashmir, I would be really happy if the stoppage of the train is created at Anantnag District so that people of my constituency and the adjoining district also benefit from it, the MP added
