Jammu, Nov 12: A fire broke out in the Gujjar Bakarwal Boys’ Hostel in Chatroo, District Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, in the early hours of Monday. The blaze, which started around 1:30 AM, severely damaged the first floor of the hostel. However, due to the swift and heroic response from the hostel’s warden, staff, and local authorities, all 50 resident students were safely evacuated with no injuries reported.
Warden Ali Bumbla and Assistant Warden Farooq Ahmad Bumbla, along with the hostel staff, acted quickly to guide students to safety. Their effective leadership and coordination with fire and emergency services prevented further damage and ensured the safety of all students.
In response to the incident, the Director of Tribal Affairs Department, Musheer Ahmad Mirza, JKAS, along with district officials, visited the site to assess the damage and oversee relief efforts. The Directorate of Tribal Affairs promptly provided affected students with essential items, including uniforms, books, and other necessities damaged in the fire. Additionally, the District Administration supplied beds, pillows, and mattresses to ensure students’ comfort.
The fire, caused by a short circuit, was brought under control quickly. As a precaution, students from the first floor were relocated to the ground floor to eliminate any further risk. All students have since resumed their studies without interruption.
The Directorate of Tribal Affairs has committed to restoring the hostel promptly, with continued support to ensure minimal disruption to the students’ education and well-being.
