Shopian, Sep 30: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb on Saturday emphasised the importance of Jan Andolan for Swachhata as the backbone of the mission and called for a massive campaign across the district on Oct 01 and 02, with a maximum number of events.
He was chairing a meeting of officers to review the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada in preparation for Swachhata activities on Oct 01.
The DC said the events planned as part of the fortnight will lead up to Swachhata Diwas 2023 and demonstrate the commitment of all to make India clean and garbage-free. The SHS-2023 program will focus on achieving a visibly higher order of cleanliness across local bodies through voluntarism and shramdaan, as well as on the welfare of SafaiMitras, he said.
Starting from Sunday, all departments will organize Swachhata drives across offices, public places of high footfall, such as bus stands, railway stations, tourist spots, historical monuments, heritage sites, river fronts, ghats, drains, and nallahs in both rural and urban areas. The activities will include the removal of garbage from all important spaces, clearing of legacy waste, repairing, painting, cleaning, and branding of all sanitation assets, such as litter bins, public toilets, garbage points, waste transportation vehicles, and Material Recovery Facilities.
The programme will also saturate markets, public spaces, and tourist spots with SBM wall paintings and dustbins, and organize Swachhata quizzes, plantation drives, Swachhata pledges, and Swachhata runs. Under the directions of the DC, events have been organised under the banner of Swachhata hi Seva to raise awareness on the subject throughout the district.
