Srinagar, Jan 26: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Sunday. The event was presided over by Incharge-Director Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir, who unfurled the tricolor on the campus.

The event was attended by Deans, Heads of Departments (HODs), HOC’s, Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rahman, SHO Nigeen Ather Parvaiz Malik, faculty members, administrative officers, and security wing staff.

A grand parade by the institute’s security wing followed the flag hoisting ceremony. Director NIT Prof. Roohie Naaz Mir took the salute from the Parade Commander and inspected the parade contingents.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Roohie Naaz acknowledged the vital role of education and institutions like NIT Srinagar in shaping a Viksit Bharat – a developed India.

“At NIT Srinagar, we have always upheld the ideals of excellence, innovation, and service to the nation. The engineers of tomorrow, trained within these walls, are not just problem-solvers but nation-builders,” she added.

Prof. Roohie Naaz said that New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has given us a roadmap to reimagine and revitalize the education system. Multidisciplinary learning, research integration, and global competitiveness are now the cornerstones of our academic framework.

“As an institution, NIT Srinagar is committed to fostering an environment where creativity thrives, innovation is nurtured, and students are equipped with the skills to lead in a rapidly changing world,” she added.

Director NIT Srinagar further said that role of engineering institutions in achieving a Viksit Bharat extends beyond classrooms and laboratories. We must forge stronger collaborations with industries, promote entrepreneurship, and encourage startups that address local and global challenges.

“NIT Srinagar is already taking steps in this direction by establishing innovation centers, promoting research in sustainable technologies, and engaging with the community through outreach programs,” Prof. Roohie Naaz said.

She also thanked everyone for attending and participating in the ceremony and extended his special gratitude to the security personnel lead by Security Officer NIT Srinagar Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, for their participation and efforts.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rahman paid rich tributes to the visionaries who crafted the Constitution and paved the way for a just and inclusive society.

“This day reminds us of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters who paved the way for the India we see today. It is their vision and dedication that shaped the foundation of our democracy,” he said.

Prof. Rehman said that the Constitution has given us the right to equality, liberty, and justice, but with rights come responsibilities. Let us strive to uphold these values in our academic pursuits, research, and service to society, he added.

Registrar NIT Srinagar also expressed gratitude for the presence of our Deans, Heads of Departments, the entire teaching fraternity, and non-teaching staff whose tireless efforts significantly contribute to the academic excellence and overall development of the institution.

” Let us also express gratitude to our armed forces, police, and all those who ensure our safety and freedom, allowing us to thrive in a democratic nation,” he added.

Following the event, both faculty and non-faculty members participated in the Republic Day festivities at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar. The institute arranged special bus services to facilitate the transportation of its employees to and from the stadium.
