SRINAGAR, MAY 27: The Director of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has directed all Chief Education Officers and Principal DIETS of the Jammu Division to disseminate and implement the Uniform Co-curricular Activity Calendar for the Academic Session 2024-25.
In an official communication, the Director emphasized the importance of a quality education system that ensures every student feels welcomed and cared for. The communication highlighted the need for a safe and engaging learning environment, diverse learning experiences, and adequate physical infrastructure and resources for all students.
Quoting the NEP-2020, the communication emphasized the holistic development of children and adolescents, aiming to foster various aspects of human capabilities. It stressed the importance of developing rational thinking, compassion, courage, resilience, scientific thinking, creative imagination, and ethical values among students to shape engaged, productive citizens in alignment with India’s constitutional principles.
The DSEJ has devised a comprehensive uniform calendar with activity-based co-curricular and related activities to instil cultural, aesthetic, social, moral, and ethical values among students. It aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 and emphasizes the active involvement of students in Sports and Games as part of the Fit India Movement.
According to the latest Students Assessment & Evaluation Scheme (SALES) for classes up to 8th, co-curricular activities carry significant weightage of 20 points in the comprehensive evaluation of students’ characteristics and potentials. Heads of Institutions are advised to motivate students to engage in co-curricular activities based on their interests and aptitudes.
The circular also directs concerned authorities to organize various co-curricular activities, preferably during the Morning Assembly, led by students under the guidance of teachers. Regular Parent-Teacher Meetings are scheduled to monitor students’ progress in academics and co-curricular activities.
The Director emphasized the submission of consolidated monthly reports on co-curricular activities and PTMs to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of students’ holistic development.
