Jammu, July 09: The BJP unit of the Union Territory (UT) of J & K on Wednesday warned of agitation if Urdu language is not withdrawn as a mandatory for Naib Tehsildar posts advertised by the government.This decision was taken by the BJP after a closed door meeting of all the 28 party MLAs at Trikuta Nagar, which was chaired by President, Sat Sharma and was also attended by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma, and Ashok Koul, BJP General Secretary (Organisation).“Making Urdu a compulsory subject in recruitment for Naib Tehisldars is a gross injustice with the youth of Jammu region,” Sat Sharma said, while adding, “We will not tolerate this injustice.” During the meeting, the BJP leaders strongly opposed the decision of making Urdu as compulsory subject in for Naib Tehsildars and said that it is a “deliberate attempt” to marginalize the youth of Jammu region. “This is a calculated move to deprive Jammu’s youth of equal opportunities,” the joint statement said. The imposition of Urdu reflects the divisive and exclusionary policies once pursued by the Omar Abdullah-led government, it said.“We will not allow the repetition of such injustice,” said a joint statement issued after the meeting by the BJP.The BJP leaders asserted that such a move is a clear violation of the equal status to multiple official languages including Dogri, Hindi, Kashmiri, Urdu, and English.
