Srinagar, Nov 15: The disengaged employees of the associated hospital of GMC Srinagar who were working on academic arrangements have appealed Lieutenant Governor and Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department.
“We had been hired as Paramedical, Nursing, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists and other allied health professions on under SRO-384 since 2011 through a proper selection process and had been rendering tireless services in the Associated Hospitals of Government Medical College Srinagar,” a spokesperson of the employees said.
They said that an SLP vis-à-vis consideration for relief to SRO-384 had been filed with the Supreme Court of India by their other colleagues, who are continuously working (status-quo maintained) and drawing their legitimately earned salaries.
They stated that the 93 similarly placed Paramedics had been dropped from the said SLP due to one or the other reasons.
“That given the delay in filing of SLP by dropping out candidates due to vacations of the Supreme Court, the Govt. Medical College Srinagar issued a disengagement order in favour of us vide its office order no:381 of 2023 dated: 01-06-2023,” the said in a statement.
Subsequently, the 93 disengaged Paramedics approached the Supreme Court to entertain their plea, being similarly placed.
“Our case has been entertained and delay in filing SLP stands condoned by the Supreme Court of India on (06-07-2023) and stands also connected with the main case of SRO-384,” it said.
“This has led to a sense of depression and psychological trauma, besides they are unable to shoulder responsibilities of their families and see a dark future ahead,” he said.
“We have crossed the age eligibility and as such cannot apply afresh in any recruitment process. We have been serving the associated hospitals for more than a decade and have worked in odd times like 2014 floods, 2016 unrest, 2019 Covid-19 pandemic and during Covid pandemic had been appreciated as “Covid warriors” and hold years of expertise/experience,” they stated.
They said it is unfortunate that similarly placed paramedics continue to work in the associated hospitals and “we have been left to fend for ourselves.”
“We Lieutenant Governor and Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education to look into the matter for any relief and remedy on humanitarian grounds, being the similarly placed Paramedics and keeping in view our long association and tireless services put forth, till the final outcome from the Supreme Court of India,” the angry employees said.
