Kulgam, June 28: Director of SCERT-JK, Dr (Prof) Parikshat Singh Manhas on Friday visited the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Kulgam to boost educational excellence and propel growth through heritage and modernisation.
During his comprehensive tour, Dr Manhas reviewed various departments within the DIET, including ongoing construction work, the status of the heritage room, training plans, research initiatives, and material development efforts.
Director SCERT-JK stressed the importance of cultural identity, saying that the heritage room must embody the cultural spirit and rootedness envisioned by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. “There is a need for infrastructural improvements,” he said, adding that a complete renovation of the DIET complex is essential to reflect the image of a true DIET of Excellence.
Prof Parikshat pledged his support to the officers at DIET Kulgam and encouraged them to adopt a “missionary mode” in achieving the aspirations of the NEP 2020. The transformative policy mandates 50 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities for teachers annually and emphasises the development of innovative learning materials like textbooks, as well as a needs-analysis approach to ensure the holistic growth of the teaching workforce.
“This growth is crucial in shaping educators to meet the demands of 21st-century India, a nation brimming with aspirations,” he said. He also highlighted the importance of cultural integration, saying that upgrading the heritage room is not just about aesthetics but about fostering a sense of cultural belonging and rootedness, as envisioned by the NEP 2020.
