Srinagar, April 09: Director National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Wednesday reviewed the progress of official language implementation in the fourth and final quarterly meeting of the financial year 2024–2025.
A statement said that the meeting of the Official Language Implementation Committee (OLIC) was held in the Committee Room and was presided over by In-charge Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Roohi Naaz, and the Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman. It was convened to review the progress of Rajbhasha (official language) implementation across various departments and administrative sections of the Institute during the financial year 2024–25.
The meeting was also attended by In-charge Hindi Officer Dr R.P. Shukla (Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering), Heads of Departments, Centres, and Sections. On the occasion, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Roohi Naaz, appreciated the commendable efforts made by the Rajbhasha Cell and the active participation of departments in promoting the use of Hindi in official work. She emphasised that the main signboards in the campus will soon be made trilingual—Urdu, Hindi, and English—on a priority basis to promote inclusivity and accessibility.
Prof. Naaz stated the Institute’s commitment to effectively implementing the directives of the Department of Official Languages, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). She also mentioned the need for permanent posts in the Rajbhasha Cell and noted that communication is already underway with the Department of Higher Education in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman stated that all directions issued by the Official Language Implementation Committee are being followed in letter and spirit on campus.
“Important circulars and official orders are regularly issued in a bilingual format to ensure compliance with Rajbhasha guidelines. NIT Srinagar has made significant progress in this direction, and we are confident of achieving even greater milestones in the future,” he said. Hindi Officer Dr R.P. Shukla informed the chair that so far 28 ministerial staff of the Institute have successfully completed the Prabodh Course under the Hindi Teaching Scheme and have now been registered for the Praveen Course. “Additionally, three employees, including an officer, have qualified the Parangat Course under Ministry guidelines,” he said. During the session, it was discussed that training sessions will be organised for more employees of the Institute in line with the Official Language Policy of the MHA. These sessions will provide basic knowledge of Hindi to enhance reading and writing capabilities for effective usage in official correspondence. The training initiative will be supervised by Mohammad Iqbal Dar, Hindi Teaching Supervisor, Rajbhasha Cell. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Hindi Translator Dr Sabzar Gani, who expressed his gratitude to the Director, Registrar, and all members of the OLIC for their continuous support and cooperation in strengthening the role of the Rajbhasha Cell on campus.
