Srinagar, June 24: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture, J&K today conducted an official visit to the Basic Seed Station, Mirgund in District Baramulla where he inaugurated the distribution of F1 Silkworm Seed for the summer rearing season.
As part of the initiative, Mr. Bhat personally distributed 25,000 (DFLs) of F1 Silkworm Seed to Officers representing various districts across the Kashmir Province. These seeds are set to be further distributed among Silkworm Rearers and Farmers to bolster sericulture activities and to facilitate them to conduct silkworm rearing without any inconvenience or any complexity.
During the visit, Mr. Bhat also inspected the ongoing breeding operations at the station. He reviewed key facilities including the oviposition rooms and acid treatment units, where the acid-treated F1 seed is currently under progress.
Later in the day, Mr. Bhat visited the Sericulture Training Institute at Alochi Bagh, Srinagar. There, he interacted with faculty members and in-service departmental candidates enrolled in the Junior Sericulture Course. The engagement underlined the department’s commitment to enhancing technical proficiency and capacity building within its workforce.
The visit reflects the department’s continued focus on strengthening sericulture as a sustainable income-generating activity for rural communities in J& K.
