Srinagar, Feb 27: Despite inclement weather conditions, essential services across Kashmir remain largely stable, said Divisional Commissioner Kashmir V K Bidhuri on Thuruday. Speaking on the current situation, he assured that while there was heavy snowfall, rains, roads, power, and public services are functioning efficiently.
“All major roads, including the National Highway, are open, though some border passes remain closed due to snowfall. Air and rail services are operational, ensuring connectivity,” Bidhuri stated. He also highlighted the impact of schools running for the past six days, expressing optimism about the progress in the education sector.
Regarding the power supply, he acknowledged the crisis but assured that the situation is under control. “Power cuts have been a challenge, but with collective efforts, we have maintained around 90% of the electricity supply,” he added.
Speaking about the Soan Meeraas Heritage Festival, Bidhuri stated its significance in preserving Kashmir’s cultural identity. “This festival is a great opportunity for the younger generation to witness our heritage. Though initially planned for February 28, it has now been rescheduled to March 1 due to rain,” he informed. He also extended his gratitude to the District Administration, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Smart City officials, and the Indira Gandhi Center for Arts for their support in organizing the event.
Despite adverse weather, public enthusiasm for the festival remains strong. Bidhuri assured that a high-level meeting is scheduled to address power concerns and other necessary preparations to ensure smooth proceedings in the coming days.
