Srinagar, Jan 08: In a significant development, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh granted approval on Monday for the establishment of three new National Cadet Corps (NCC) units in Jammu and Kashmir, signaling a strategic move to enhance youth engagement and national service in the region.
The approved proposal includes the formation of one mixed (Boys and Girls) Army Battalion each at Udhampur and Kupwara, along with the establishment of one Air Squadron at Udhampur (J&K). The Defence Minister also greenlit the formation of an NCC Unit for the Union Territory of Ladakh in Kargil.
According to details, this expansion will lead to a substantial increase in the cadet strength, with an additional 12,860 individuals joining the NCC in J&K and Ladakh. This represents a remarkable 46.1% rise, supplementing the existing 27,870 cadets.
Presently, the Directorate operates with two Group Headquarters, encompassing a total of 10 NCC Units, strategically covering all three geographical regions. The proposed expansion aims to further strengthen the morale of the youth in the region, empowering them to make significant contributions to the nation-building process.
