Kathua, Sep 05: Chairman District Development Council Kathua, Col (Retd.) Mahan Singh Friday visited several rain-affected villages of Block Bhoond including Sandhar, Dodla and Jandhrali to assess the damages caused by incessant rains, landslides and ground sinking incidents.
As per a statement issued here, during the visit, the DDC Chairman interacted with the affected families and took a detailed stock of the losses to residential houses, agricultural land and other property. He observed that in village Shara alone around 25 houses have suffered major structural damages due to large-scale ground sinking on the down slope area, with estimated losses running into crores. Besides, landslides and debris flow have worsened the situation, forcing several families to vacate their homes and leaving them in urgent need of assistance.
Col Mahan Singh was accompanied by Yubkaran Singh, Capt. Anchal Singh, Chamel Singh, Varinder Singh, Ajeet Singh (BDO Bhoond) along with officers of concerned departments. The visiting team interacted with the affected population, listened to their grievances and assured them of timely relief and rehabilitation. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC Chairman appealed to the civil society and voluntary organisations to come forward in support of the distressed families. He said that community participation holds the key in mitigating the hardships of people affected by such natural calamities. The DDC Chairman further informed that the district administration is closely monitoring the situation and directed the concerned authorities to ensure expeditious relief distribution, restoration of damaged infrastructure and advance measures in vulnerable locations to safeguard lives and property.
