Day-02: High-Octane action marks All India Inter-University Powerlifting Championship at KU

Srinagar, April 05: The second day of the ongoing All India Inter-University Powerlifting (Men & Women) Championship 2025, hosted by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPE&S) University of Kashmir (KU) witnessed a spectacular display of strength, skill and sportsmanship.
Competitions were held in four weight categories across both men’s and women’s sections, drawing an impressive participation of over 90 athletes in each category.
The day was marked by intense contests, particularly in the Women’s 52 kg and Men’s 59 kg and 66 kg weight categories, where athletes competed with unmatched zeal and grit.
The participants showcased their strength and technique in the core disciplines of squat, bench press and deadlift, captivating the audience with their power-packed performances and unwavering determination.
A sizable gathering of students, faculty members and sports enthusiasts turned up to witness the competitive action, cheering on some of the country’s top university lifters. The charged atmosphere at the venue reflected the growing enthusiasm for strength sports among the youth.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor KU Prof. Nilofer Khan expressed satisfaction over the smooth conduct of the championship and lauded the efforts of the organising team. “It is a matter of immense pride for our University to bring together these athletes from across India. Events like these promote a culture of sportsmanship, resilience and national integration,” she said.
Registrar KU Prof. Naseer Iqbal, while felicitating the medal winners, reiterated the University’s commitment to promoting high-calibre sporting events. He commended the athletes for their dedication and discipline, underscoring the significance of sports in holistic development. Coordinator DPE&S KU Dr Surjeet Singh said: “With eight more categories yet to be contested over the coming days, the championship promises more thrilling action and inspiring performances from university athletes representing all corners of the country.” Dr. G.S Ruhal, Observer, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) is overseeing the overall championship.

Day 02 Results:
Women’s 52 kg:
Gold – Seema Kuntal (Purvanchal University)
Silver – Geeta (Chandigarh University)
Bronze – Ashwani (Sant Gadge Baba University)

Men’s 59 kg:
Gold – Murli (Durg University)
Silver – Krishna (Durg University)
Bronze – Sukhraj (Calicut University)

Men’s 66 kg:
Gold – Raghav (GNA University)
Silver – Jeevan (Madras University)
Bronze – Dharshan (Bharathiar University)
