Baramulla, Feb 16: The suspension footbridge constructed more than a decade ago at the Eco Park in Baramulla has been severely damaged, posing a potential risk to pedestrians.
The footbridge, which extends over the River Jhelum and connects the Sheeri to the Khadinyar area, has been the subject of concern for some time.
Locals said the bridge has been neglected by the department responsible for its maintenance and that no steps have been taken to repair the damage.
The bridge, which is a popular attraction for tourists and locals, has now become a cause for alarm. The safety of pedestrians, particularly during peak hours, is at risk as the damage has rendered the footbridge unsafe for use, locals said.
The people have called upon the authorities to take immediate action to repair the suspension footbridge to prevent any accidents or mishaps.
“In light of the urgency of the situation, it is hoped that the concerned department will take swift action to restore the footbridge to a safe condition, ensuring the safety of all those who use it,” Khursheed Ahmad, a local, told Rising Kashmir.
He said it is a matter of concern and the bridge must be fixed immediately because it poses a risk to pedestrians’ lives.
“The bridge sees a 60 percent flow of Eco Park tourists besides the locals who pass through this bridge. We have raised the issue many times but it appears that the government is awaiting an accident to occur,” he said.
Meanwhile, an official of the Roads & Block Development Department Baramulla told Rising Kashmir that the issue will be investigated, and the required repairs will be made.
