CUS football tourney concludes

Srinagar, Dec 09: The Inter-College Football Tournament, organised by Cluster University Srinagar in collaboration with Indian Army (31 Sub Area, Chinar Corps), concluded on Monday with Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road winning the girls’ title and Amar Singh College clinching the boys’ title.
Sixteen teams from eight constituent colleges of Cluster University Srinagar participated in the tournament which began on November 28. Amar Singh College lifted the boys’ trophy after defeating Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road with a 3-0 margin. In the girls category, the final match was played between ‘Team A’ and ‘Team B’ of Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road in which the former secured the win with a thumping 8-0 margin.
The award and prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar, Prof. Mohammad Mobin and General Officer Commanding (31 sub-area), Major General P. B. S. Lamba.
Haider of Amar Singh College was adjudged as ‘Best Player’ of the tournament in the boys category while Fahima Qureshi of Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road was adjudged as the Best Player in the girls category.
Usman Peer of Amar Singh College was adjudged as ‘Best Goalkeeper’ of the tournament in boys’ category and Labaik Sajad of Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road was adjudged as ‘Best Goalkeeper’ in the girls category. The match officials were also facilitated on the occasion.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mobin reiterated the university’s commitment to provide world class facilities to hone the sporting talent of students. Maj Gen PBS Lamba also commended the students for their enthusiasm and reaffirmed Army’s support for such events.
Others present on the occasion included Dean Academics Affairs, Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, Registrar, Dr. Syed Wilayat Hussain Rizvi, Controller of Examinations, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Mir, Nodal Principal, Prof. Seema Naz, Sports Secretary, Dr. Munir Ahmad Mir besides Deans of various schools and Principals of constituent and affiliated colleges.
