Ganderbal, Mar 05: The Department of Animal Sciences (Zoology), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) conducted a one-day event to commemorate the “World Wildlife Day” on 3rd of March.
The programme started by highlighting the genesis and importance of the day by Dr. Lateef who also conducted its proceedings.
In his remarks, Head, Deptt of Zoology, Prof. Mohammad Yousuf highlighted the importance of wildlife to humankind and ecology.
Prof. Abid Hamid, Dean School of Life sciences, in his special remarks, gave a brief introduction about Wildlife and its components. He deliberated on the role of floral and faunal elements in sustaining the ecosystem.
Later, an Expert talk was delivered by Dr. Khursheed Ahmad, Head, Division of Wildlife Sciences, SKUAST-K, wherein he highlighted the importance of various endemic species of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He emphasized the importance and need of identifying the grey areas of research from Wildlife of Jammu and Kashmir. In addition to this, Dr. Khursheed suggested measures to safeguard the local wildlife species.
The programme was organised by Dr. Mohammad Lateef (Sr. Assistant Prof. and Nodal; Officer for Students Champions for Wildlife) and Dr. Hameem Mushtaq.
Later, various students participated in a walkathon and painting competition. Ms. Munazah Fayaz and Ms. Adeeba Irshad were adjudged 1st and 2nd in the painting competition. However, for 3rd position there was a tie between Ms. Ayesha Tariq, Ms. Mehreen Rashid and Ms. Fatima Kar. Dr. Hameem Mushtaq proposed the vote of thanks.
