Srinagar, May 12: Expressing deep anguish over the loss of life and property caused by recent cross-border shelling, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Monday called upon the government to take urgent action for the rehabilitation of affected families. He urged both the Government of India and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to declare all deceased persons as martyrs.
In a statement issued here, Karra called for immediate compensation and resettlement for all displaced families, as well as a thorough assessment of damages to public property and infrastructure.
He highlighted the severe impact of the shelling, particularly in border areas of north Kashmir such as Uri and Karnah, where extensive losses have led to mass evacuations. Similarly, Rajouri and Poonch districts in Jammu have suffered significant casualties and property damage, he said.
“The loss of life and property in these conflicts is heartbreaking and unfortunate. I urge the government to ensure timely rehabilitation and compensation on a war footing basis so that affected people can resume their normal lives,” Karra stated.
The J&K Congress chief expressed heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. “The government must act immediately to provide justice, support, and dignity to those affected,” he added.
