Srinagar, Jul 03: The Communist Party of India (Jammu and Kashmir) has called for the immediate restoration of statehood. It also alleged that the newly formed political alliance was “another attempt” by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to “install a proxy” in the valley.
In a key meeting held at the party headquarters here, the CPI reiterated its demand for the restoration of statehood, a commitment repeatedly made by the central government on the floor of Parliament.
“The government has even assured the restoration of statehood through its Solicitor General in the Supreme Court,” a party spokesperson said in a statement issued here.
The CPI alleged that attempts were being made to build a misleading narrative around the fresh elections to confuse people. “In this context, a new alliance under the name ‘Peoples Alliance for Change’ has been floated, with covert backing from the BJP,” he said.
The party attributed the high voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir to the people’s aspirations for the restoration of statehood and other promises made by the Centre.
