Srinagar, Mar 20: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Thursday informed the Assembly that the construction of the Government Degree College (GDC) Eidgah building is nearing completion.
The statement came in response to a question raised by former Speaker and MLA Mubarak Gul, who sought details on the progress of college construction in the Eidgah Constituency and the steps being taken to expedite it.
Responding to the query, Minister Itoo stated, “The construction of the GDC Eidgah building is in full swing and is expected to be completed very soon.” She assured the House that the government is actively working to ensure the project is completed on time.
Gul also raised concerns about land encroachment at the Saidpora site earmarked for the college. Addressing these concerns, the minister acknowledged that a portion of the land on the east-south side of the college is currently under litigation. “The issue regarding one part of the land that belongs to the college is subjudice,” she informed the Assembly.
To safeguard the remaining land, the minister said, “The department has formulated Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the construction of a compound wall, main gate, and bio-fencing around the college.” She added that the government is considering initiating these projects during the 2025-26 financial year under Capex Grants.
