Srinagar, Dec 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) paid rich tributes to Congress veterans and former leaders—G.M. Sadiq, Syed Mir Qasim, and Ghulam Mohammad Mir (Lasjan)—at a solemn function held at the party office in Srinagar. The event honoured their immense contributions and selfless service to the people of J&K.
JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra led senior party leaders, prominent intellectuals, and journalists in paying homage to the stalwarts.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Moulana Noorani and Moulvi Amin, followed by Fateh Khawani for the departed leaders. A two-minute silence was observed in their memory.
Addressing the gathering, Tariq Karra praised the unwavering commitment and leadership of G.M. Sadiq, Syed Mir Qasim and G.M. Mir Lasjan. He highlighted their dedication to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and their efforts to uplift the underprivileged, particularly those living below the poverty line.
Karra said their profound understanding of J&K’s socio-political landscape and their close connection with the people left a lasting legacy.
Former Union Minister and ex-JKPCC President Prof Saifuddin Soz underscored the sacrifices and contributions of the party veterans, urging the younger generation to draw inspiration from their tireless service for the inclusive development of J&K. He said their legacy would continue to guide future generations.
The event was attended and addressed by senior leaders, including former legislators Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Nizam Ud Din Bhat, Irfan Hafeez Lone, Surinder Singh Channi, Abdul Rashim Rather, Mahila Congress President Shameema Raina, Abdul Gani Khan, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Abid Imtiyaz Bhat, Irfan Naqib, Dr. Audil Farooq Mir, and many others.
Eminent guests such as Ghulam Nabi Mir Lasjan, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Farooq Mir, Zahoor Ahmad Malik, Syed Manzoor Ahmad, Shaheena Nadaf, Tanveer Khan, Yasir Mundoo, Zaffar Farooq Salti, and others also participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Tariq Hameed Karra, himself the nephew of former Chief Minister G.M. Sadiq, paid rich tributes to the three veteran leaders, commending their unwavering dedication to public service and their significant role in strengthening the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The enduring legacy of these visionary leaders continues to guide us and we take immense pride in upholding the principles they championed. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the sons of the esteemed G.M. Mir Lasjan Sahib—Ghulam Nabi Mir Lasjan and Mohammad Farooq Mir—for graciously accepting our invitation. It is a matter of great pride that his grandson, Dr Audil Farooq Mir, also remains steadfast in our collective mission to carry forward the ideals and values these leaders instilled in us,” he said.
On the occasion, the PDP leader from Pahalgam, Ghulam Nabi Wani Kothso, joined the Congress. He was warmly welcomed by the JKPCC president, senior leaders, and Anantnag District President Zaffar Farooq Salti.
The event served as a reminder of the enduring contributions of the Congress veterans, whose vision and sacrifices continue to inspire the party and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
