Srinagar May 21. The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday paid tributes to former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi on his martyrdom day, recalling his great contributions to the inclusive development of the nation.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee organised a function at the Srinagar Party Office where tributes were paid to Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd martyrdom day, describing him as a man of development.
The event was attended by party office bearers, DCC presidents, Block president, frontal organisations and prominent party workers
The leaders said, “The selfless services and sacrifices of Rajiv Gandhi shall continue to lead the nation at the path of prosperity and equitable development of every section living in the country while highlighting the three-tier Panchayat Raj systems gifted by the martyred leader to the nation, which proved a milestone in the overall development and empowerment of people at village level and in far-flung rural areas.”
Terming computer science as one of the big achievements, the leaders appreciated Rajiv Gandhi’s sincere efforts to introduce computer science which contributed immensely to the development of the nation, bringing India to par with other fast-developing countries in the globe.
“There has been a massive development under the prime ministership of Rajiv Gandhi in the country in every respect, but the cruel hands of death snatched the leader of the masses, which was a big loss that could not be replaced by anything,” the party said.
“Rajiv Gandhi’s enduring legacy continues to inspire the generations, besides reminding us about the cost of our freedom and democratic values. We must reiterate our commitment to the principles Martyred leader tirelessly fought for, the speakers added.
The JKPCC added, “Rajiv Gandhi’s bravery, commitment and conviction shall continue to guide us in our mission for equality, and justice. His leadership qualities shall remain a beacon of hope and strength for all Indians striving for a better future.”
In Jammu, JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla, along with other party leaders, functionaries, and workers, gathered to pay homage to the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The event was marked by recollections of Gandhi’s significant contributions and his lasting impact on the nation.
Bhalla highlighted Rajiv Gandhi’s remarkable tenure as the youngest Prime Minister of India. He credited Gandhi with giving the youth a vision for tackling the challenges of the 21st century, bringing about an IT and telecom revolution, and lowering the voting age to 18 to empower the younger generation. “Unique, historical, and unforgettable works like the computer and telecommunication revolution, the empowerment of the Panchayati Raj system, and promoting youth participation in politics were initiated by Rajiv Gandhi,” he said.
Bhalla emphasized that despite Rajiv Gandhi’s political career being brief, it was profoundly impactful. He also praised Gandhi’s contributions to science and technology, as well as India’s space and nuclear programs.
The Congress leader hailed Rajiv Gandhi as the architect of Modern India, saying his leadership took the nation to new heights in development, education, self-reliance, and defence. “Under Rajiv Gandhi’s leadership, the nation achieved significant advancements and positioned itself to compete with other developed countries,” Bhalla said.
