Congress leaders gathered to praise the visionary role of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in defeating the two-nation theory advocated by Jinnah, emphasizing his crucial efforts in securing Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India on October 26, 1947, under Maharaja Hari Singh’s rule.

PCC Chief Vikar Rasool said that Nehru’s legacy is currently under attack by those who did not participate in the freedom struggle. He called on Congress members and all who recognize Nehru’s significant contributions to unite against these forces to prevent the distortion of history and ensure future generations understand Nehru’s core values.

Raman Bhalla described Nehru as one of the tallest leaders of modern times after Mahatma Gandhi. He underscored Nehru’s key role in integrating Jammu and Kashmir into India and his influence on world politics, including the creation of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which emerged as a powerful global bloc.

Mula Ram, Senior Vice President, highlighted Nehru’s dedication to building a democratic, social, and political system. He noted that Nehru saw political democracy as a tool for solving social problems, laying the foundation for Panchayati Raj and community development programs. Nehru’s planning system facilitated the growth of the public sector, leading to the industrialization of India.

Th. Balwan Singh echoed these sentiments, calling Nehru the tallest leader of all times and stressing the importance of exposing historical distortions made by certain forces for political gain. Singh reiterated Nehru’s significant contributions to the freedom struggle and as India’s first prime minister, shaping the nation’s future and integrating Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian union.(KNS)
