Srinagar, July 02: Congress leader Dr Audil Farooq Mir Lasjan met with Jammu & Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, submitting a detailed memorandum addressing pressing civic and infrastructure challenges in the Lal Chowk Assembly Constituency and adjacent areas.
Dr Audil highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive water resource management, including a secondary pump station for the Tangnar Water Supply Scheme and groundwater extraction facilities in Alamdar Colony Zewan. He called for a reevaluation of urban-rural demarcation and improved municipal governance for better road maintenance and sanitation services.
The Congress leader emphasised the critical need for solid waste management and infrastructure maintenance in Zewan Bala, Zewan Payeen, Lasjan, Soiteng, and Gandabal. Proposing a comprehensive health assessment in Sangri-Khanmoh and Lasjan industrial zones, he also advocated for better transportation and telecommunication infrastructure, including mobile towers and Smart City Bus services.
He raised the socio-economic impact of the mining prohibition, proposing rehabilitation and employment policies for affected families and strategies to mitigate material shortages. He called for policy revisions to balance environmental conservation with industrial expansion, regular water supply, safety audits of Power Development Department infrastructure, and an electricity bill waiver amnesty for economically disadvantaged families.
Highlighting the need for infrastructure development, Dr Audil urged expedited completion of stalled road and bridge projects. He proposed regular audits in health, education, and social welfare sectors, regulation of alcohol distribution near educational institutions, flood mitigation strategies, and agricultural sustainability measures.
Additionally, Dr Audil advocated for sports infrastructure development to reduce youth vulnerability to drugs and alcoholism, rectification of title anomalies in revenue records, and establishment of public lavatories. He suggested a holistic housing policy for landless and homeless people based on the Delhi Development Authority model.
The Congress leader expressed appreciation for the UT administration’s efforts and emphasized the need for a strategic and comprehensive approach to enhance the quality of life and infrastructure in the region.
