Collaborative programme on PEA begins at SKUAST-K

Srinagar, Jan 28: A four-day collaborative program on Participatory Extension Approaches (PEA) for Extension Functionaries is being held from January 28 to January 31, organised jointly by the Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir and the Extension Education Institute (EEI), Nilokheri.
The program is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of extension workers from various districts, equipping them with contemporary strategies for sustainable agricultural development. In his inaugural address, the Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir, Professor Nazir Ahmed Ganai, emphasised the importance of bioeconomy, state extension strategies, stressing the need for secondary and sustainable agricultural practices. He highlighted the critical role of participatory
approaches in advancing agricultural development and ensuring long-term sustainability.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar, the Regional Director of EEI Nilokheri, spoke about the evolving trends in extension approaches and the significance of organizing more collaborative events to foster knowledge sharing and capacity building among extension functionaries. He also underlined the importance of working in close collaboration to achieve the broader goals of agricultural extension. Dr. Ajay Kumar from EEI Nilokheri and Professor Farhanaz Rasool from the Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir, played pivotal roles in coordinating the event. The opening session was marked by a warm welcome from Professor Purshottam Singh, who expressed gratitude to all the participants and guests for their valuable contributions.
Dr. Rusheeba Manzoor presented the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of all involved in making the event a success. The event saw active participation from extension functionaries across all districts, marking a significant step towards strengthening the extension services in the region. The program will include discussions, workshops, and hands-on training, aimed at improving the effectiveness of extension practices and promoting sustainable agricultural solutions.
The initiative is expected to contribute to the professional development of extension functionaries and encourage the adoption of innovative approaches in the field of agricultural extension. Through this program, participants will gain valuable insights into participatory extension models, which prioritize community engagement and local solutions to agricultural challenges. The overall objective is to empower extension functionaries with the tools and knowledge necessary to drive positive change in the agricultural landscape, ultimately benefiting farmers and rural communities across the region
