Col CK Nayudu Trophy: Kanhaiya, Yawer’s masterclass knocks put J&K back on track; match hangs in balance

Jammu, Nov 17: Solidity, sublimity, elegance and serenity was on display as skipper Kanhaiya Wadhawan and promising middle-order batter Yawer Hassan scored masterclass half-centuries, coupled with equally valuable contribution with the willow by Arnav Gupta and Kawal Preet Singh, put Jammu and Kashmir back on track after conceding a sizeable first innings lead to formidable Gujarat in the ongoing U-23 Men’s Col CK Nayudu Trophy at University of Jammu ground here.
Jammu and Kashmir were 365/9 at stumps on day-3 today, gaining a lead of 231 runs with one wicket in hand, thus the match hangs in balance and the team that would hold its nerves better in the crunch situation on the final day tomorrow, would be the winner.
Resuming from an overnight score of 93/4, J&K rode on an exceptional batting show by Kanhaiya and Yawer to take the score 233 runs, making a fifth wicket partnership ofbesides superb bowling display by the trio of Mujtaba Yousuf, Archit Mahajan and Janib Java 156 runs, before Yawer was dismissed on his individual score of 69 runs off 224 balls, studded with 12 boundaries. Kanhaiya was the next man to be dismissed at his individual score of masterclass 94 runs including 9 fours.
Arnav Gupta and Kawal Preet Singh followed their skipper with magnificent 51 and 49 runs respectively. Arnav hit 7 fours and 2 sixes in his 79-ball knock, while Kawal Preet took 81 balls and struck 4 fours and 2 sixes in his knock. Archit Mahajan (20) also contributed to the team’s cause.
For Gujarat, Jay Malusare and Kushan Shan Patel took 3 wickets each, while Shen Patel claimed 2 wickets.
Earlier, on day-1 put into bat, J&K bundled out for paltry 136 runs. Kanhaiya (46) and Qamran Iqbal and Archit Mahajan 20 each were the main contributors.
Jai Malusare was the wrecker-in-chief for Gujarat, who captured 5 wickets while Bhavya Chauhan and Shen Patel claimed 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
Gujarat in reply, had scored 270 runs to gain a lead of 133 runs.
Opener Rishi Patel scored magnificent 140 runs off 216 balls studded with 10 fours and 4 sixes, while Krish Amit Gupta contributed 39 runs to the total.
For J&K, Mujtaba Yousuf and Archit Mahajan captured 4 wickets each, while Janib Javaid picked 2 wickets.
