Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, COA CEPC INDIA, expressed deep concern on Sunday regarding the rising presence of fake handicrafts being sold as genuine artisanal products in the market.
He stated that these counterfeit items not only deceive consumers but also undermine the hard work and cultural heritage of authentic artisans, who pour their skill, creativity, and tradition into each piece they create.
“Authentic handicrafts are more than just objects; they are a reflection of our rich cultural history and the dedication of artisans who have honed their craft over generations. The sale of fake handicrafts threatens the livelihoods of these artisans and diminishes the value of their work,” he added.
Sheikh Ashiq urged all sellers and buyers to be vigilant and ensure that the handicrafts they trade or purchase are genuine. “Supporting authentic artisans helps preserve our cultural heritage and sustains the communities that rely on these crafts for their livelihood,” he said.
He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to protecting the integrity of cultural assets and announced plans to raise awareness about this issue.
Sheikh Ashiq encouraged the public to report any suspicious or counterfeit items they come across and assured that the organization will work closely with authorities to take appropriate action against those involved in the production and distribution of fake handicrafts.
“Let us all stand together in preserving the authenticity and value of our cultural heritage,” he added.
