Srinagar, Feb 24: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign against obesity.
In a post on X,Omar Abdullah said, “I am happy to join the anti-obesity campaign launched by PM @narendramodi ji. Obesity leads to various health issues like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes, and breathing problems. It also affects mental health, causing anxiety and depression.”
As part of the campaign, he nominated 10 persons to continue the initiative and encourage more people to participate which include business leader Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, industrialist Sajjan Jindal, actress Deepika Padukone, tennis star Sania Mirza, cricketer Irfan Pathan, politician Supriya Sule, Wushu coach Kuldeep Handoo, archer Sheetal, cricketer Iqra Rasool, and fitness enthusiast Palak Bijral.
“Together, let’s #FightObesity,” he wrote in his post.
Speaking further on the issue, Omar said, “We are bringing awareness about health. Obesity is generally considered a disease, and it is spreading rapidly as a lifestyle illness. However, it can be controlled if we take precautions, exercise, and follow a healthy diet.”
He also said that this movement, started by the Prime Minister, aims to educate people about obesity and encourage action against it. “I was included in this campaign through a tweet, and I have also nominated 10 more persons to keep it going,” he said.
Speaking on the broader benefits of good health, Omar said that by spreading this message, they hope to make a difference. Better health improves productivity, helps children focus on their studies, reduces pressure on hospitals, and ultimately increases life expectancy, he added.
CM flags-off K2K EV drive from SKICC
Srinagar, Feb 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today flagged off the second season of the fastest Electric Vehicle (EV) drive, Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K), from the lawns of Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Center (SKICC).
Interacting with the organizers, the Chief Minister extended his felicitations and best wishes to all participants.
Highlighting the significance of the event, he remarked, “This drive stands as a testament to the remarkable advancements in vehicle technology, the development of charging infrastructure, and the rapid growth of India’s EV ecosystem.”
Expressing confidence in the team’s endeavor, the Chief Minister acknowledged their ambition to surpass their previous record, this time targeting an impressive 80-hour journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in the Tata Curvv EV. Equipped with next-generation Gen 2 motor technology, a robust 55kWh battery, and supported by India’s expanding EV infrastructure, the drive is expected to set new benchmarks in long-distance electric travel, he said about the rally.
The Chief Minister wished the participants a safe and successful journey, emphasizing that their achievement would further inspire the adoption of sustainable transportation across the country.
