Srinagar, May 19: Dr M.A. Alim, Vice Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CII) J&K Council, along with other CII members, met with Anil Khadelwal, Member of the Railway Board, in New Delhi. The meeting focused on integrating Jammu & Kashmir into the national Gati Shakti program and addressing critical infrastructure needs in the region.
During the meeting, Dr Alim called for including Jammu & Kashmir in the national Gati Shakti program. Khadelwal assured that the region would be fully covered under the new Gati Shakti schemes, which aim to enhance multimodal connectivity and logistics across the country, a CCI J&K statement issued here said.
The discussion also covered the development of cargo terminals to serve the industrial estates of both Jammu and Kashmir. Khadelwal committed to providing further details on the implementation of these infrastructure projects in the near future.
According to the statement, Dr Alim brought up the long-standing demand to upgrade the Jammu railway station. “Khadelwal assured that the redevelopment of the railway station is a priority and will be completed within a two-year timeframe. The new Jammu station will be modernized, renovated, and equipped to handle the increasing passenger and freight traffic in the region,” he said.
Overall, the meeting was productive, resulting in concrete commitments from the Railway Board to address key infrastructure gaps in Jammu & Kashmir, the statement said, adding that the CII J&K Council is hopeful that these discussions will soon translate into tangible on-ground improvements for the region’s connectivity and economic development.
