New Delhi, June 22: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and former Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Ghulam Ahmad Mir has expressed deep concern over the financial struggles faced by Community Information Centre (CIC) Operators working in the Rural Development Department (RDD).
In a statement issued here, Mir lamented that despite being qualified and talented, CIC Operators are forced to survive on a meagre income of Rs 10,000 per month, with many earning as little as Rs 333 per day. “This is not only affecting their livelihood but also making it difficult for them to feed their families and provide education to their children,” he said.
Mir said this financial crisis is due to the lack of a proper regularisation process, which has led to uncertainty and insecurity among the CIC Operators. He urged the government to take immediate action to address the issue and enhance the wages of these employees, who are dedicated to their work despite the financial difficulties.
The AICC General Secretary called for the formulation of a regularisation policy for CIC Operators and other daily wage employees working in various departments. “It must be ensured that they are able to overcome their financial burdens and lead a dignified life,” he said.
Mir took a strong exception to the power bills issued by the Power Development Department, which reportedly ranged from Rs 900 to Rs 2,100 or more in some areas. “This is a move to harass consumers,” he said while demanding immediate rollback of electricity hike.
He added, “The poor are already struggling with inflation. It is a human issue that needs to be addressed on a priority basis.”
