Srinagar, Mar 11: Vajr Division of Chinar Corps celebrated International Women’s Day at Government Degree College, Kupwara to honour the myriad accomplishments of distinguished women and to felicitate young women achievers in the region. More than 250 young girls and women from various age groups participated in the interactive forum with the panellists to engage in a dialogue about growth, empowerment and the positive impact of women in all facets of life.
The United Nations theme for this year ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ focuses on addressing the economic disenfranchisement of women. “It aligns with the agenda of the event, which was to highlight the importance of investing in women for the betterment of society,” the organisers said in a press release.
The day was marked with evocative slogans like Inspiring Inclusion, Strength of Nation, Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress and Nari Shakti.
The chief guest highlighted the critical role women play in maintaining societal balance and their burgeoning success across various domains. “Such strides forward are key to propelling Kupwara and the entire Kashmir region towards a future filled with glory,” she said.
She praised the attendees and the women of Kupwara for their pioneering spirit in all walks of life and called upon the community to make a commitment to women’s empowerment. “There is a need to ensure that women receive their rightful opportunities to meaningfully contribute to the growth and prosperity of the Kashmir Valley and the nation at large,” the chief guest stressed.
The panellists comprising Colonel Pooja Chauhan, Mrs Divya D IPS SP Sopore, acclaimed actress Mateena Rajput and Mrs Refat Wani shared their personal inspiring stories of the challenges and opportunities they faced in diverse fields like sports, entertainment, social welfare and defence to motivate and inspire the young women of Kupwara.
The panellists and achievers including Mrs Fareeda Bano, Miss Aliya Azmat, Saleeqa Tariq and Pakeeza Qureshi were also felicitated for their contributions in their respective fields.
“This initiative by the Indian Army to celebrate International Women’s Day in Kupwara not only commemorates the achievements of women but also serves as a catalyst for continued investment in their empowerment,” the organisers said.
