Momin Beigh, a singer and cinematographer from Hawal area of Srinagar is one among the few artists who not only have the passion for singing but bears an audacity to go against the odds to pursue it as a career.
Like any other singing enthusiast, he was fond of singing since school days. After finishing school, he went to Delhi to learn classical music for three years. When he returned to the valley, he made a song in Punjabi, Jaaniya which received a warm response from the audience.
Not only netizens, Mumin, through his magical voice impressed the judges in the auditions of the reality singing shows like Rising Star and Indian Idol.
“Giving auditions in the shows that you have watched on TV was a whole new and learning experience. After that I did many songs on my own,” he said.
He also sang a song in Rahat Kazmi’s movie, Wishlist starring Hina Khan and Jitendra Rai
“While I was working as a cinematographer, I had one project with a Mumbai based team led by Rahat Kazmi. During night time, everyone was chilling and Rahat sir spotted me singing. He praised my singing skills and told me to sing a song for his movie,” he said.
Despite facing societal pressure, he said that his family has been a huge supporter in his singing career. “My family told me even if I won’t be able to make a big name in the music industry, I shouldn’t leave singing and I believe that something good will happen soon. Singing has been with me from childhood and this won’t leave me even if I want,” he said.
24 years old artist considers himself a big fan of the legendary, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
“I have learnt that failures make you stronger. If one door closes, another opens for you. One has to work hard and continue chasing dreams,” he said.
