Centre puts J&K ahead of all UTs in providing housing for all

Srinagar, May 31: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Ministry of Rural Development Shandilya Giriraj Singh for allotting PMAY(G) target of additional 1,99,550 houses in favour of J&K UT.
In a tweet, LG said that ‘Extremely grateful to  PM  @narendramodi Ji and Union Minister @MoRD_GoI, Shri @girirajsinghbjp Ji for allotting PMAY(G) target of additional 1,99,550 houses in favour of J&K UT. It will be a momentous step towards achieving the objective of Housing for All,” he said.
On April 15, PM Modi asserted that lives of mothers and sisters are becoming easier with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.
Responding to a tweet thread by Jammu Poonch MP Jugal Kishore Sharma where the MP had narrated the massive change brought by a house under PM Awas Yojana in the life of Chanchala Devi of Poonch.
“This happiness of Chanchala Devi ji of Jammu and Kashmir tells how the lives of our mothers and sisters are becoming easier with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,” PM Modi said in a tweet message.
On March 29, the Jammu and Kashmir Government said that under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Grameen (PMAY-G), 40,000 new houses will be built for houseless families.
Speaking on the J&K Budget 2023-24 in Jammu, LG Sinha said that under the PMAY-G, 40,000 new houses for houseless families and 18934 dwelling units to be completed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U).
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), a flagship Mission of Government of India being implemented by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), was launched on 25th June 2015.
The Mission addresses urban housing shortage among the EWS/LIG and MIG categories including the slum dwellers by ensuring a pucca house to all eligible urban households by the year 2022, when Nation completes 75 years of its Independence.
