Srinagar, July 10: “The deteriorating security situation besides the series of terrorist attacks in different districts of Jammu & Kashmir reflects the absolute failure of the Central government on the security front,” AICC General Secretary and Former J&K Congress President Ghulam Ahmad Mir said on Wednesday.
He said the loss of army and security forces personnel is extremely disturbing and highly condemnable. The claims to have restored peace and eliminated terrorism after the reorganisation of J&K are contrary to the ground situation, the fact remains that terrorism has risen considerably, he said during his two-day tour of various areas in south Kashmir where he met various public delegations, who briefed him about their grievances.
Mir said Congress strongly condemns the terrorist attacks on army and security forces personnel and urges the Centre to take effective measures to restore a conducive atmosphere. “J&K is going to polls shortly as per the Supreme Court directions, so it is paramount to maintain peace and ensure that democratic process is restored, besides the safety of common people ensured in J&K,” he said.
Referring to the recent terrorist attacks in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Doda and Kulgam districts, the senior Congress leader said the Central government has failed to eliminate terrorism leading to the loss of precious lives of army, security forces personnel and civilians in various districts of J&K. “Our brave soldiers are attaining martyrdom in line of duty. The government must explain to the public what measures it is taking to contain terrorism. We cannot afford to continue losing our brave soldiers,” he added.
The AICC General Secretary asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to “stop misleading” the public either on the development or security front and accept that they have failed on all fronts despite being in power for more than ten years. The BJP stands exposed for failing people on all fronts, he said.
Mir during his two-day tour met a series of public delegations at Badur, Mohripora, Tangward, Hardpora, Shankerpora and Nowpora areas of the Doru constituency of south Kashmir where he was apprised of the various issues concerning the public, especially the drinking water crisis. He was told that people are being supplied contaminated water leading to various health problems.
The Congress leader said the supply of contaminated water has led to various water-borne diseases, which is a matter of grave concern. “This is a big failure on the part of the administration, especially the PHE Department,” he said, seeking an appropriate supply of drinking water to the public after proper purification to avoid further crises.
G A Mir added, “The Congress Party will continue to highlight the government failures on all fronts, especially security, development and employment. We have made the BJP accountable and answerable to people and will continue to fight for safeguarding public rights. There have been tremendous losses to J&K due to the policies of the BJP after abandoning people of their democratic rights. The time has come when they (people) will elect their representative democratically, who will represent them at every appropriate forum and ensure redressal of their issues.”
