Srinagar, April 02: The central government has allocated Rs 3,520 crore for the development of Panchayat infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir for the financial year 2024-25.
The funding has been provided under the Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) and the Revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) to enhance grassroots governance by improving rural facilities, digital access, and administrative efficiency.
The information was shared in the Lok Sabha by Manju Sharma in response to a question.
For the year 2024-25, Jammu & Kashmir will see the construction of 970 Panchayat Bhawans, while Ladakh has been sanctioned three new buildings.
In addition, J&K has received 1,000 computers in the last year to improve digital facilities at the Panchayat level, with more allocations planned in the future.
Under the Fifteenth Finance Commission Grants, J&K was given Rs 2,819.24 crore in the previous financial year (2023-24). This year, the allocation has increased to Rs 3,520 crore.
Meanwhile, Ladakh was allotted Rs 318.91 crore last year and continues to be part of efforts to strengthen Panchayat institutions under various central schemes.
