Carve provisions in budget for G-20 summit: CS to administrative deptts

Srinagar, Feb 18: Chief Secretary, J&K, Arun Kumar Mehta has directed all administrative departments carve some provision in the budget for upcoming G-20 Summit in the Union Territory.
Directions were passed during the recently held review meeting regarding Physical, Financial Progress achieved under UT Capex Budget 2022-23. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Mehta at Civil Secretariat Jammu.
During the meeting, the CS said for successful conduct of G-20 summit, all administrative departments should be fully ready.
He also directed administrative departments to carve some provisions in the Budget for the G-20 summit in UT as the event will be showcasing India’s pride and performance.
The move comes as large-scale works have been taken up in Srinagar district, including repair of roads, replacement of rotten poles and beautification of flyovers, etc.
India assumed the G20 presidency for 2023 from December 1, 2022. India will host more than 200 meetings at over 50+ locations across the country throughout 2023.
During the meeting, CS Mehta also highlighted the importance of heritage sites in the UT, and directed the Culture Department to shift its focus on the area and develop various heritage sites.
“There is tremendous scope in this sector which is not been fully exploited and promoted,” he said.
During the meeting, Chair also emphasized on achieving the physical completion of 70000 works (excluding MGNREGA) during the current financial year.
“All administrative departments were directed to revisit the targets fixed for current financial year and wherever feasible make a revision of targets so that they can be achieved the same period,” he said.
CS Mehta also said that 100 percent funds shall be released to the projects that are expected to the completed during current financial year.
In order to bring more clarity in the Capex Budget formulation, the chair directed to all administrative departments to shift the scheme based budgeting. Directions were also issued to complete the oricess of formulation of Capex Budget for the year 2023-24 before ending March 2023.
Earlier, Director General Development Expenditure Division-II welcomed Chief Secretary and other officers participating in the meeting.
He also presented detailed power point presentation on Physical, Financial Progress achieved under UT Capex Budget during the year 2022-23.
Chief Secretary in the initial remarks expressed satisfaction that on the side of physical completion of projects. There has been substantial improvement in achievements in comparison to the previous year, particularly during the pre-reorganization period.
Detailed discussion was held on various issues faced by the respective administrative Secretaries in the meeting which included timely release of funds.
The meeting was attended by All Administrative Secretaries to Government, Director General, Budget, Finance Department, Director General, Dev. Expenditure Division-II, Finance Department, Director, SKIMS Soura, Srinagar (through VC), Director, Resources, Finance Department.
All Directors, Joint Directors,Deputy Director, posted in Civil Secretariat and Principal, SKIMS Bemina, Srinagar (through VC).
