Srinagar, Oct 18: Aspirants of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday made a fervent appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to reconsider the waiting lists for government job vacancies, citing the mass resignations across various departments.
Scores of candidates, currently on waiting lists for various government positions, told Rising Kashmir that they are urging the CM to take action, as hundreds of posts remain vacant in multiple departments. “We request the CM to reconsider the waiting list because many vacancies remain unfilled, and this is our only hope for employment,” one aspirant said.
They are demanding a one-time exemption to utilize the waiting lists, particularly in light of the mass resignations. The aspirants believe this would be a fair solution to address the large number of vacant posts, ensuring deserving candidates do not miss out on opportunities due to unforeseen circumstances in the workforce.
They highlighted that over 500 candidates are on the waiting lists for recent exams, and many fear they may lose their eligibility due to age restrictions. One aspirant, who wished to remain anonymous, shared his distress, stating, “I am about to cross the age limit for government exams, and if this decision is not reconsidered, I won’t have another chance.” He further expressed that he had spent the last five years preparing for the JKSSB exams, leaving him feeling helpless.
The aspirants also mentioned that they have raised this issue with several government officials, but all they have received are assurances, with no concrete steps taken to address their concerns.
They pointed out that neighbouring states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Gujarat have successfully implemented similar measures, filling vacancies through waiting lists and maximizing the potential of qualified candidates. They urged CM Omar Abdullah to adopt such practices in J&K, calling for a reconsideration of the waiting lists to ensure fair opportunities for deserving aspirants.
For many of these candidates, this decision could define their future and bring much-needed relief.
