Srinagar, Apr 05: Unknown burglars decamped with seized contraband worth crores of rupees and fake currency from the highly-secured District Court Complex Rajouri even as police have started a fast-track investigation in the case and arrested some suspects.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that the burglary took place on the intervening night of April 3 and 4 when some thieves broke the locks of the seizure room and stole the contraband.
“At least 4 kg of heroin, fake currency and many more items were stolen,” he said, adding that they have started an investigation into the case.
The officer said that cognizance has been taken, and an FIR No. 143/2023 U/S 457/380 IPC has been registered and an investigation has been started.
“During the initial phase, police analysed the crime scene with the assistance of the FSL team. Police are also analysing the technical evidence related to the scene of the crime, and have rounded up various suspects for questioning,” he said.
Keeping in view the seriousness of the matter, SSP Rajouri Amritpal Singh has placed under suspension the Guard I/C and other officials for dereliction of duties. An inquiry has also been initiated, the officer said, adding that the investigation is going on and a breakthrough is expected very soon.
Syed Shah Jahan, Incharge Munshi Police Station Rajouri said they have registered FIR in the case and the investigation is underway.
“So far, we have arrested 15 suspects in the case and more arrests are expected. All angles of the case are being investigated professionally,” he said.
