Jammu, Apr 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) executive member Raman Suri on Monday said Jammu and Kashmir proudly celebrates the historic premiere of the film Ground Zero, starring Emraan Hashmi, in the picturesque Kashmir Valley.
“This landmark event marks a significant milestone in the region’s resurgence as a hub for tourism, filmmaking, and cultural activities, driven by the transformative policies and programmes of the Union Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said in a statement issued here.
Suri said that for decades, Jammu and Kashmir, once a crown jewel of Indian cinema and tourism, faced the scourge of militancy and separatism, deterring visitors and filmmakers alike. “However, the last ten years have witnessed a remarkable turnaround. The Union Government’s resolute measures to eradicate terrorism and separatism have restored peace and stability, creating an environment conducive to growth and prosperity. As a result, the valley is once again resonating with the sounds of Lights, Camera, Action!” he said.
The BJP leader said the premiere of Ground Zero, extensively shot in the breathtaking locales of Kashmir, is a testament to this transformation. The event not only showcases the region’s scenic beauty but also sends a powerful message to the nation and the world: Kashmir is open, vibrant, and ready to reclaim its status as a premier destination for filmmakers and tourists, he said.
The Union Government’s policies, including robust infrastructure development, promotion of new tourist destinations, and enhanced security measures, have catalysed an unprecedented surge in tourism, Suri remarked.
“In 2024, Jammu and Kashmir welcomed over 2 crore tourists, shattering previous records and establishing the region as a year-round destination,” he said, adding that the tourism sector, a cornerstone of the local economy, has directly benefited from high-profile events like the Ground Zero premiere, which amplify the valley’s appeal on a global stage.
Suri said the government’s focus on developing lesser-known destinations, coupled with initiatives like the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting held in Srinagar in 2023, has further elevated Kashmir’s profile. These efforts have created a ripple effect, generating employment opportunities and empowering local communities, particularly the youth, he said.
“The return of Bollywood to Kashmir is a significant cultural milestone. The valley, once a favourite backdrop for iconic films, is now witnessing a revival of its cinematic legacy. The premiere of Ground Zero is just the beginning. The BJP envisions a future where Kashmir becomes a hub for film shoots, musical concerts, and other cultural extravaganzas, fostering an ecosystem that nurtures creativity and talent,” he added.
