Jammu, Apr 05: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Working President Raman Bhalla on Friday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has failed to address the political and developmental aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its claim of winning over 400 seats in the Lok Sabha polls will prove another “Jumla”.
He claimed that Congress is committed to protecting the rights and the land of Jammu and Kashmir’s people, asserting secularism is a unique strength of the country and it should be strengthened.
Bhalla said J&K’s development is a priority for the Congress party and the present dispensation has badly failed to protect the rights and the land of the people. “Secularism is a unique strength of the country, he said, adding that all the citizens have the responsibility to strengthen it. Jammu and Kashmir’s socio-economic development is the focal point of Congress,” he said.
Being the representative of the people’s aspirations, the party will raise the issues confronting the people at all forums for their mitigation, he said, adding that the party functionaries knocked on every door to get the issues faced by the people redressed.
The JKPCC leader said, “The BJP government rather than politically engaging with aggrieved people with an aim to address their burning issues, had chosen to tread a path of isolation, arrogance and confrontation contradicting the promises made with people of J&K. The disenchantment among the people has reached an unprecedented level. The sense of anti-incumbency against this present government is much greater. Regional polarisation and efforts to divide the people on the basis of their religions could have short-term political advantages for the ruling parties, Jammu and Kashmir will always stick to its legacy of inclusiveness, secularism and tolerance.”
Bhalla said the BJP government has lost the trust of the people, because of “utter failure” to fulfill their “tall claims” during elections.” The governance failures are writ large in almost every field, adding to the miseries of each and every section of the society,” he said, adding, “This kind of situation has disappointed every common man who is already facing the brunt of ‘Achhe Din’ promise of Modi government.”
