Jammu, Oct 11: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Friday issued a stern warning to the National Conference (NC), criticising the party for engaging in what he described as “hooliganism” in Jammu & Kashmir following the recent assembly elections.
Chugh in a statement condemned the alleged actions of the Abdullah family, saying that it was shameful to witness a disregard for the democratic process in the region. “The Abdullahs are unleashing a reign of terror in the union territory, which is unacceptable,” he asserted.
He said the BJP respects the people’s mandate and is committed to working diligently for the development and growth of J&K. However, he warned that any subversive elements backed by the Abdullah family should refrain from disrupting law and order in the region.
Regarding the issue of statehood for J&K, the BJP leader reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed this matter multiple times. He urged the NC not to create a political atmosphere against the nation. “The party has been influenced by external forces, including Pakistan’s ISI,” he alleged.
Chugh expressed grave concern over reports of violence involving NC members in various parts of J&K. “My question to Omar Abdullah is whether the NC believes it has a mandate for hooliganism. Has it come to wreak havoc?” he questioned. “I have been receiving complaints over the past three days about BJP workers being assaulted in areas such as Bijbehara, Khiram, Dachinipora and Wagama.”
The BJP leader accused elected MLAs of resorting to violence under the guise of celebrating NC’s electoral victories.
