Jammu, Feb 05: Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia, spokesperson for J&K Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said the Modi government is serious about the present security situation in Jammu & Kashmir. He said the party is committed to promoting peace and prosperity in the Union Territory.
There has been a reduction in terrorism-related incidents and the absence of repetitive stone-pelting incidents, Dr Jasrotia said while addressing a press conference here. He was joined by Dr Pradeep Mahotra, Media Incharge J&K BJP.
The BJP spokesperson said Union Home Minister Amit Shah is personally overseeing the situation, with security agencies and top officials in Delhi closely monitoring developments. He said that Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma recently met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure peace. He said Sharma also voiced concerns over the security situation in Jammu following recent incidents, said Jasrotia.
Dr Pradeep Mahotra in his address said that BJP’s J&K unit president, Sat Sharma (CA), is currently in Kashmir to directly engage with those affected by the latest security challenges. Both leaders emphasised that the BJP, from the Home Minister to the grassroots, is working in unison to address the situation.
Taking a sharp political stance, Dr Jasrotia strongly criticised the National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah’s recent remarks, calling them “unfortunate”. He accused Abdullah’s party of historical failures that led to decades of turmoil in J&K, particularly referencing the disputed 1987 elections. He also targeted the J&K Congress chief Tariq Hamid Karra and the INDI alliance, accusing them of being complicit in past bloodshed.
“The security situation in Jammu & Kashmir is far better than that was in the earlier rule of NC government,” he said.
He mentioned the murder of Tika Lal Taploo, Girija Tikoo and others, saying that Kashmiri Pandits were forced to leave their homeland during NC’s tenure. He accused NC leaders as the responsible persons for the 1.5 lakh graves in the region.
“Farooq Sahib must answer about the turmoil spanning three decades. As a former CM, he should have prevented the situation from getting worse.,” the BJP spokesperson said.
Quoting a verse, Dr Jasrotia remarked: “Mera qatil hi mera munsif hai, yeh kya mere haq mein faisla dega.”
Expressing confidence in the Jammu & Kashmir Police, Dr Jasrotia praised its commitment to work for the safety of the people in hostile situations and assured that the newly appointed IGP Jammu is a capable officer who will swiftly address the recent security concerns. He announced his plans to meet senior police officials to discuss further strategies.
