National Conference vice-president and candidate from Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, Omar Abdullah on Thursday alleged that BJP is getting scared and panicked seeing the support for his party, adding that the Bharatiya Janata Party is stopping him from campaigning for the Lok Sabha election.

He added that his party will write a letter of complaint to the Election Commission and hope for a resolution.

“On one hand, BJP people claim that the situation has become favourable… but when it comes to campaigning, obstacles are created, especially against me because we have come out to defeat the BJP candidate here. What was the reason for stopping my election campaign for three consecutive days? We were given permission. Now they have withdrawn the permission. We are sending a letter to the Election Commission as a complaint and hope that justice will be done…It’s quite evident from the response I’m getting from people, the crowd that we’re seeing in our programme, they (BJP) are scared, they (BJP) are panicked, and this is the result of that panic,” he said.

“The BJP people are scared after seeing the turnout of people who are in support of us… They don’t want us to reach out to you all. But we will not let them succeed with their intentions… I request you all to give me one chance to represent you all… If you nominate me to the Parliament, you will get four added advantages with it… What else do you want?”

“People have a lot of hopes, a lot of problems… if I get the opportunity to represent…, then I will have to repay this love and affection through my work,” he added.

The Lok Sabha election 2024 will be held in 5 Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir, including Baramulla, Srinagar, Anantnag-Rajouri, Udhampur and Jammu. The voting in Jammu and Kashmir is being held in five phases.

In 2019, polling for the Lok Sabha was held for six seats in Jammu and Kashmir. However, following the abrogation of Article 370, which resulted in the split of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, there is no longer a separate Lok Sabha constituency for Ladakh.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP won three seats, while the National Conference won the remaining three.

The PDP and NC, despite being allies in the opposition alliance INDIA bloc, have decided to go solo in the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases, running from April 19 to June 1The counting of votes and results will be declared on June 4. (ANI)
