Srinagar, Feb 29: Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kashmir Unit on Thursday said there will be no changes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Kashmir on March 7 and that the preparations are underway for the mega event to be held in Srinagar.
Senior leader and party’s spokesperson Altaf Thakur told Rising Kashmir that there will be no changes in PM Modi’s visit to Kashmir on March 07 as PMO’s office has already confirmed the date with the party high command of UT.
“The revised plan includes a limited workers rally at SKICC in Srinagar, where party leadership and workers will participate in a crucial meeting. This will be followed by a meeting with several delegations from the Valley,” he said.
Thakur said March 07 will be a historic day for Kashmiris and people are waiting with open arms to welcome PM Modi. This rally will send a good message throughout the country and will be the beginning of election campaigning for BJP in J&K for 2024, he said.
“Modi Ji has been promoting Kashmir through the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program. He featured Kashmiri lotus stem (Nadru), Kashmiri Willow cricket bats, snow cricket in Gurez, Gulmarg, handicrafts etc through his speeches. He became our ambassador outside Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Altaf said BJP’s leadership in Kashmir also held a meeting on Thursday to review the various arrangements for the PM’s visit. Another meeting will be held on March 02, in which UT leadership including BJP J&K President Ravinder Raina and Ashok Koul, and Chief Spokesperson Sunil Shetty will attend to review the final arrangements, he said.
PM Modi, who visited Jammu last week and inaugurated a series of development initiatives totalling over Rs 32,000 crore, has not visited the valley during his second term as Prime Minister.
The last time he visited was in February 2019, ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, as part of his tour to all three regions of the former state – Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh. He also addressed a public meeting at Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium in November 2015.
