Jalandhar, Feb 02: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) successfully organised (7th in a Row) two-day Residential Training Program for Mentors of Standards Clubs of Punjab Region on 01-02 February 2024 at Maya Hotel Jalandhar.
More than 50 mentors of six districts (Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Tran Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot) standard club schools/institutes of JKBO jurisdiction participated in the said training program.
Tilak Raj, Director & Head, BIS-JKBO stated that children are the future of a strong, vibrant and dynamic nation. The Mentors acts as the guiding force to get the activities done under the standards club in a manner to channelize their creativity and enhance their scientific temperament. It is therefore imperative that the Mentors themselves understand the concepts behind standards and their role in the quality ecosystem.
With this vision, BIS JKBO conducted the training program in which technical lectures on overview of BIS activities, concepts of quality and standardization at national and international level, types of standardization and Standards, benefits of standardization, Objectives and Guidelines for Standards
Clubs, Role and responsibilities of Mentors were delivered by Hitesh Yadav, Scientist-B of BIS JKBO. During the Residential Training Program, features of BIS Website, Know Your Standards portal for free download of Indian Standards and BIS Care App were demonstrated to the participants with examples followed by classroom/group activity on Standards Writing on variety of subjects covering different types. The groups of mentors prepared draft standards on subjects given to them and presented to other groups which were deliberated viz-a-viz published Indian Standards on the subjects.
The Training Programme was coordinated by Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS-JKBO. The training was very much appreciated by the mentors as this helped them understand the structure and technicalities of a standard.
