Srinagar, Oct 10: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) bike rally from Srinagar to Siachen Base Camp continues its inspiring journey, promoting the significance of standards across remote regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The rally made impactful stops at Khyber Cement Industries, Khunmoh, and the Techvaganza Fest at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, spreading vital messages of quality, safety, and sustainable development.
A team of bikers, accompanied by BIS officials, attended a function at Khyber Cement Industries in Khunmoh, where they emphasized the importance of adhering to standards in the cement and construction sectors. Officials highlighted how compliance with BIS standards ensures the safety, durability, and sustainability of construction projects. A pledge ceremony followed, with participants committing to integrating standards into everyday life and business practices.
Simultaneously, another group of bikers and BIS officials participated in the Techvaganza Fest at NIT Srinagar, a premier technology event for students. BIS was honored to deliver a lecture on the role of standards in fostering innovation and ensuring the safety of technological advancements. Addressing the students, officials stressed that standards are the foundation for building a globally recognized and competitive technology ecosystem. Following standards, they noted, would allow India’s innovations to meet international benchmarks for quality and performance, providing a strong platform for students’ future careers.
As the day concluded, both teams reunited and set out for Drass, the next milestone in the rally. With its ultimate goal of reaching the Siachen Base Camp, the rally aims to raise awareness of BIS standards even in the most remote regions. Having arrived in Drass today, the rally will continue its mission tomorrow at the Kargil War Memorial.
Organized as part of the World Standards Day 2024 celebration, this rally reflects BIS’s commitment to promoting the role of standards in ensuring safety, quality, and sustainable development. It is a key initiative under the larger ‘Quality Connect’ program, which includes educational outreach and community engagement across colleges and industries in Jammu, Jalandhar, and Srinagar.
As the rally progresses, it continues to highlight how standards affect every aspect of life—from industrial production to the innovations of young engineers—ensuring a safer, more sustainable future for all.
