Ganderbal, Sept 25: A senior member of Jamaat-e-Islami, Ghulam Muhammad War, expressed his gratitude for conducting the elections.
On the second phase of voting in Ganderbal district, War after casting his vote said he desired for progress and development of the region
War said elections were held after ten years and people were eager to vote. He said that bureaucracy had been in place here for ten years, and people wanted their issues to be addressed through their elected representatives.
War mentioned that Jamaat-e-Islami was previously part of the mainstream. “We participated in elections before. I myself had contested elections twice, once in 1983 on a Jamaat ticket and in 1987 on a Muslim United Front ticket.
He said that the rigging in 1987 disillusioned the youth here.
He mentioned that Jamaat-e-Islami has now decided to move forward through the democratic process because they believe in democracy.
He added that the issue is not just about the ban on Jamaat, but there are numerous other issues, and they will try to resolve them peacefully.
He said that if their representatives succeed, they will push the issue forward to remove the ban. He also mentioned that even if they do not succeed, they will approach any party that comes to power to seek support in lifting the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami.
He emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami is contesting the elections to solve the region’s issues and work for its development.
