Bandipora, Sept 30: In a remarkable recognition of selfless dedication to community service, a youth from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district bagged the prestigious National Service Scheme Presidential Award for the year 2021-2022.
As per the details available with Rising Kashmir, the award was conferred to him by the President of India for quietly making monumental contributions to society and beyond.
Hailing from Lawaypora Village of Bandipora and a student in the Department of Social Work at the University of Kashmir, Kifayatullah Malik has left his mark across a diverse spectrum of domains.
His passion for education, the environment, women’s empowerment, drug de-addiction, blood donation, cleanliness, and health and hygiene in the post-COVID-19 era has set him apart as a dedicated agent of change.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Kifayatullah said he has actively been engaged in awareness programs on critical issues such as road safety, the importance of voting, digital literacy, gender sensitization, and the drive towards a plastic-free and cashless India and has been a force for positive change, organizing campaigns, and initiatives that address these societal challenges.
Kifayatullah said he has personally planted hundreds of saplings and earned recognition in the form of the Best Van Mitra Award from the Department of Social Forestry in Jammu and Kashmir.
Kifayatullah raised funds amounting to 27,350 rupees to ensure that essential stationery supplies reach hundreds of deserving students.
He also organized free coaching classes for economically disadvantaged students and made quality education accessible to those in need.
Together with fellow NSS (National Service Scheme) volunteers, Kifayatullah spearheaded an initiative that raised 74,524 rupees, he said adding that this fund was used to provide food kits to 68 disadvantaged families across different districts in Jammu and Kashmir, offering essential relief to those facing hardships.
With his outstanding contributions he earned many accolades and commendations, including the prestigious University’s Best National Service Scheme Volunteer Award. His dedication and passion took him to the Republic Day Parade Camp 2023 in New Delhi, where he proudly represented the NSS.
Kifayat said that service to others has been his guiding principle, and this award reaffirms the importance of collective efforts in bringing positive change to our society.

Meanwhile Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha also congratulated him for his selfless services to society.
