Udhampur, Apr 13: The vibrant spirit of Baisakhi came alive at Devika Ghat, Nainsoo, as the historic Navarash Baisakhi Mela was celebrated with great enthusiasm and community participation. MLA Udhampur-East, Ranbir Singh Pathania graced the occasion and underscored the festival’s profound religious, cultural, and historiographical significance, particularly in Northern India.
Addressing a large gathering at the mela, Pathania said, “Baisakhi is not just a festival, but the fulcrum of our collective spiritual heritage, cultural traditions, and historical legacy. It is a celebration of the undying spirit and unity of the people of Jammu.”
The ancient Aap Shambhu Mandir at Nainsoo, situated on the sacred banks of Devika, has been a traditional host of the Baisakhi mela since time immemorial. the BJP leader praised the Shiva Mandir Committee Nainsoo for upholding this age-old tradition and for organizing the event with devotion and diligence.
Commending the efforts of the local community and stakeholders, Pathania assured continued support and emphasized his commitment to promoting cultural tourism and heritage festivals in the region. He expressed gratitude to various departments whose coordination made the successful execution of the event possible and announced that he had formally taken up the issue of infrastructural support and development of the mela site with concerned authorities.
The stalls set up by various departments, along with local craftsmen and cuisine, added vibrant new colour to the entire show, the MLA said, adding that these thoughtful additions brought a fresh taste and tinge that is deeply attached to the daily lives of the people.
The festival witnessed enthusiastic participation from people across Udhampur and surrounding areas, showcasing local art, culture, music, and traditional food stalls. It served as a platform to promote unity, tourism, and cultural pride.
Pathania reaffirmed his vision for preserving and celebrating local festivals as a means to strengthen regional identity and foster inclusive development.
