Doda, Sept 15: Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday pledged to bring a “developmental revolution” to the Chenab Valley.
Addressing large gatherings in Doda East while rallying in support of the party candidate Ab Majid Wani, the former chief minister said he has a vision for transforming the region’s infrastructure and social welfare.
He highlighted the extensive developmental work done during his tenure as chief minister and union minister, including the establishment of medical colleges, universities, roads, hospitals and administrative institutions across Chenab Valley. “Other political parties neglected the region’s needs,” he said, vowing that DPAP would continue to prioritise the region’s welfare and uplift the underprivileged.
Azad promised a free ration of up to 50 kg for the poor, the restoration of the Roshni scheme (which provides land ownership rights), and relief from electricity bills for the underprivileged. He also committed to improving road connectivity to even the remotest villages and introducing a “double and triple shift” work culture to accelerate infrastructure development.
In addition to development, the DPAP chief expressed concerns over the revocation of J&K’s special status in 2019. “I pledge to introduce legislation to protect land and job rights for locals,” he said. Azad also addressed the growing issue of drug abuse among the youth and promised new job opportunities and initiatives to steer them toward a productive future.
